Build the context, systems and judgment that make AI useful.
I help organizations connect brand strategy, creative practice and AI-assisted workflows without confusing faster production for better judgment. A decade of executive partnership taught me how to get brand into the decision while the decision is still open. From there, I build the context, standards, examples and governance that let teams use AI with greater range while keeping people responsible for the work.

How I build a strategy
Strategy is a coherent choice about where a brand can win, what it must refuse and how the organization will make that choice real. I find the force pulling a category toward sameness and the aperture the brand can credibly own.
Find the category’s gravity.
Identify the inherited promise and codes pulling competitors toward the same answer before deciding where to resist.
Read competition in context.
Map the leader, challenger and third-tier field by the choice each owns in the customer’s mind, and find the aperture that remains.
Choose the customer’s becoming.
Position the brand around the person the customer is trying to become, not a claim about the product.
Win all three battles.
A strategy must win the customer’s choice, the customer’s heart and the company’s commitment. Winning one is not winning.
Turn the choice into consequences.
Translate the position into portfolio architecture, experience principles, voice, identity and governance so it survives contact with the work.
Identity at scale
How I bring the identity to the frontline
AI creates leverage only after the brand has made its choices. I turn positioning, voice, visual grammar, examples, boundaries and escalation paths into a governed system that helps more people make stronger work without pretending judgment can be automated.
Encode the irreducible idea.
The system begins with the customer transformation, brand role and strategic choice that the work must preserve. If those are vague, automation only produces inconsistency faster.
Turn identity into an operational grammar.
Voice, typography, color, composition, imagery, motion and experience principles become usable rules, examples and boundaries, not a static document people must interpret alone.
Design for the person doing the work.
The frontline does not need one enormous prompt. It needs role-aware workflows that provide the right context, constraints and examples at the moment a decision is made.
Keep human judgment responsible.
AI can research, compare, draft and inspect. A person still judges meaning, appropriateness, quality and consequence, and remains accountable for what is released.
Judgment becomes the craft.
Human intuition and judgment are becoming design’s most valuable skills. People react to how something feels and sense whether it is right before they can explain why. As fabrication and bandwidth bottlenecks resolve, the higher-order craft is diagnosing what is wrong, articulating why, and knowing how to make it right.
Learn without drifting.
Edge cases and real use should improve the governed source. The system can become more capable without quietly rewriting the identity it was built to carry.

Selected system outcomes
These outcomes changed what teams could decide, produce and govern without making quality depend on one person.
AI-supported brand voice
20+ writers, three departments, one voice
A Guide archetype, the story behind it, the vocabulary and the criteria for judging a draft, built into something writers in Marketing, Product and Member Care used daily.
Governance that settled what the standards could not
Every AI-assisted output stayed under human review, and a cross-functional council decided the calls no rule anticipated, so quality never depended on one person.
I built the case, worked through the executive team’s objections and led the company’s first comprehensive redefinition. A decade of executive partnership made brand part of how the company decided.
Victory brand strategy and portfolio architecture
Rebrand the product to rebrand the customer.
The category had taught customers to see themselves through shame and surveillance, and churn ran near 90%. I repositioned Victory around becoming and formation, then designed the portfolio architecture that made Covenant Eyes the institutional authority and gave Victory, Five Stones and the content brands each a defined job and a controlled level of disclosure. Governance is what kept that system coherent as it grew.
An onsite with the CEO and the Product and Marketing leaders turned four years of competing positions into one direction, and brand and product development restarted.
A short fractional engagement with America’s first Christian mobile wireless service. I led positioning, messaging, onboarding and lifecycle strategy, translated the network technology into language customers could understand, and began building the company’s first integrated marketing operating system.
Turned a differentiated network capability into a position customers could understand.
Designed the company’s first integrated marketing operating system, connecting workstreams to ownership, reporting and the customer journey.
Used AI-assisted workflows to accelerate research, comparison, writing and system development, with every output judged and released by a person.
Director of Creative Marketing
Covenant Eyes
Remote / Owosso, Michigan · 2018–May 2026
Creative and brand leadership inside an enterprise SaaS company, across eleven years with the company (2015–May 2026). In its first Creative Director role, I resolved a four-year strategic deadlock, led the 2020 Covenant Eyes rebrand, and went on to lead the 2025 Victory brand strategy and the portfolio architecture organizing Covenant Eyes, Victory, Five Stones and the supporting content brands.
Moved brand into decisions across the executive team, Product, Marketing and Member Care, so positioning shaped priorities before production began.
Built the Guide-based voice system that 20+ writers across three departments used daily, with strategy, examples, exclusions and evaluation criteria supplied as context.
Established human review on every output and a cross-functional Brand Council to settle the calls the standards did not cover.
Resolved a four-year strategic deadlock, then led the 2020 Covenant Eyes rebrand.
Led the 2025 Victory brand strategy and designed the portfolio architecture organizing Covenant Eyes, Victory, Five Stones and the supporting content brands.
The goal is not to automate taste or centralize every decision. It is to make the strategy, standards and reasoning clear enough that capable people can extend the work while responsibility remains visible.
My practice connects brand strategy, organizational behavior, design systems and emerging creative tools. I study each because the work fails when any one of them is treated in isolation.
